After these things were done, it was reported to Joseph that his father was sick. And taking his two sons Manasseh and Ephraim, he went directly to him.


And leaving them behind, he went out, beyond the city, into Bethania, and he lodged here.


And as they were approaching Jerusalem and Bethania, toward the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,


He said these things, and after this, he said to them: "Lazarus our friend is sleeping. But I am going, so that I may awaken him from sleep."


(Now Bethania was near Jerusalem, about fifteen stadia.)


And many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary, so as to console them over their brother.


Therefore, his sisters sent to him, saying: "Lord, behold, he whom you love is sick."


And so the crowd that had been with him, when he called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead, offered testimony.


Now a great multitude of the Jews knew that he was in that place, and so they came, not so much because of Jesus, but so that they might see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead.


And it happened that, in those days, she became ill and died. And when they had washed her, they laid her in an upper room.
