“‘“Now when I passed by you and looked at you, and saw that you were at the time for love, and I spread my garment over you and covered your nakedness. Yes, I pledged myself to you and entered into a covenant with you,” says Lord YHWH, “and you became mine.


For everyone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and whoever humbles themself will be exalted.”


Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, “May YHWH bless him, the one who has not withdrawn his lovingkindness to the living and to the dead.” Then Naomi also said to her, “The man is our close relative, one of our kinsmen-redeemers.”


He said, “May YHWH bless you, my daughter. You have shown more kindness in this than what you did earlier, because you didn’t go after the young men, whether poor or rich.


Now, it is true that I am a kindman-redeemer. However, there is a relative closer than I.


In the middle of the night, the man was startled. He turned, and there was a woman lying at his feet!


So I thought I should inform you by saying, ‘Buy it in front of those who sit here and before the elders of my people.’ If you will redeem it, redeem it. But if you won’t redeem it, tell me, so that I may know. For there is no one besides you with the right to redeem it, and I am after you.” He said, “I will redeem it.”


The near kindman-redeemer said, “Then I can’t redeem it, because I would endanger my own property. Take my right of redemption for yourself because I can’t redeem it.”


She arose and bowed herself with her face to the earth, and said, “Here I am, your servant, a slave to wash the feet of the servants of my lord.”
