In that day, the Lord, YHWH Almighty, called to weeping, to mourning, to baldness, and to dressing in sackcloth.


Then John’s disciples came and asked him, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples don’t fast?”


No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch would pull away from the garment, and the tear will be worse.


Jesus said to them, “Can the friends of the bridegroom fast while he is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.


But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and on that day they will fast.


Then he said to the disciples, “The days are coming when y’all will long to see one of the days of the Son of Humanity, but y’all won’t see it.


He said to them, “Y’all can’t make the friends of the bridegroom fast while he is with them, can y’all?


But the time will come when the groom will be taken away from them, then in those days they will fast.”


Rather because I have told y’all these things, sorrow has filled y’all’s heart.


The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. But the bridegroom’s friend, who stands by and listens for him, rejoices greatly when he hears the bridegroom’s voice. So this joy of mine has been made complete.
