And in that day, the Lord, the God of hosts, will call to weeping and mourning, to baldness and the wearing of sackcloth.


Then the disciples of John drew near to him, saying, "Why do we and the Pharisees fast frequently, but your disciples do not fast?"


For no one would sew a patch of new cloth onto an old garment. For it pulls its fullness away from the garment, and the tear is made worse.


And Jesus said to them: "How can the sons of the wedding fast while the groom is still with them? During whatever time they have the groom with them, they are not able to fast.


But the days will arrive when the groom will be taken away from them, and then they shall fast, in those days.


And he said to his disciples: "The time will come when you will desire to see one day of the Son of man, and you will not see it.


And he said to them: "How can you cause the sons of the groom to fast, while the groom is still with them?


But the days will come when the groom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast, in those days."


But because I have spoken these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.


He who holds the bride is the groom. But the friend of the groom, who stands and listens to Him, rejoices joyfully at the voice of the groom. And so, this, my joy, has been fulfilled.
