His brothers envied him, but his father kept this saying in mind.


Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, “Mercy, Lord! This will never happen to you.”


Then they asked him, saying, “Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”


But they didn’t understand this statement, and they were afraid to ask him.


As they were coming down from the mountain, he commanded them that they should tell no one what they had seen, until after the Son of Humanity had risen from the dead.


His disciples didn’t understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about him, and that they had done these things to him.


Some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers began debating with him. Some said, “What is this babbler trying to say?” Others said, “He seems to be a proclaimer of foreign gods,” because he was preaching Jesus and the resurrection.
