It will happen that when the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife.’ They will kill me, but they will save you alive.
Abimelech said to Abraham, “What did you see, that you have done this thing?”
Besides, she is indeed my sister, the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.
He said, “Don’t lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him. For now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.”
The men of the place asked him about his wife. He said, “She is my sister,” for he was afraid to say, “My wife”, lest, he thought, “the men of the place might kill me for Rebekah, because she is beautiful to look at.”
Joseph said to them the third day, “Y’all do this, and y’all will live, for I fear God.
But the former governors who were before me were supported by the people, and took bread and wine from them, plus forty shekels of silver; yes, even their servants ruled over the people, but I didn’t do so, because of the fear of God.
There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job. This man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God, and turned away from evil.
To humankind he said, ‘The fear of the Lord, that is wisdom. To depart from evil is understanding.’”
Do all these evildoers know nothing? Those who eat up my people like they eat bread, and never call on YHWH?
The fear of YHWH is the beginning of knowledge, but the foolish despise wisdom and instruction.
By mercy and truth iniquity is atoned for. By the fear of YHWH men depart from evil.
then you will understand the fear of YHWH, and find the knowledge of God.
The fear of YHWH is to hate evil. I hate pride, arrogance, the evil way, and the perverse mouth.
