Crispus, the leader of the synagogue, and his entire house believed in the Lord. Many of the Corinthians who heard believed and were baptized.
When this became known to all the Jews and Greeks who lived at Ephesus, fear fell over them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was held in high honor.
And y’all see and hear that this Paul has convinced and turned many people, not just here in Ephesus, but almost all throughout Asia. He says that gods that made with human hands are not gods.
Paul had decided to sail past Ephesus to avoid spending time in the province of Asia, for he was hurrying to be in Jerusalem, if possible, on the day of Pentecost.
When they had come to him, he said to them, “Y’all know how I lived with y’all the whole time I was there, from the first day I set foot in Asia,
(They had seen Trophimus the Ephesian with him in the city, and they assumed that Paul had brought him into the temple.)
Now I mean this, that each one of y’all says, “I follow Paul,” another, “I follow Apollos,” another, “I follow Cephas,” and another, “I follow Christ.”
If I fought with animals at Ephesus for human purposes, what does it profit me? If the dead are not raised, then “let’s eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.”
Now concerning our silbing Apollos, I strongly urged him to come to y’all with the siblings. It was not at all his desire to come now, but he will come when he has an opportunity.
Now, siblings, I have figuratively applied these things to myself and Apollos for your* sakes, so that in us y’all may learn “not to go beyond what is written,” so that none of y’all be puffed up against one another.
