When he saw them, Jacob said, “This is God’s army.” He called the name of that place Mahanaim.


Absalom and all the men of Israel said, “The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel.” For YHWH had ordained to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that YHWH might bring evil on Absalom.


Now Abner the son of Ner, captain of Saul’s army, had taken Ish-bosheth the son of Saul and brought him over to Mahanaim.


Then Joshua spoke to YHWH in the day when YHWH delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel. He said in the sight of Israel, “Sun, stand still on Gibeon! You, moon, stop in the valley of Aijalon!”


they were very afraid, because Gibeon was a great city, like one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than Ai, and all its men were mighty.


“Y’all come up and help me. Let’s attack Gibeon, because they have made peace with Joshua and with the children of Israel.”


But when the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and to Ai,


If he is able to fight and kill me, then will we be y’all’s servants. But if I prevail against him and kill him, then y’all will be our servants and serve us.”
