Argue your case with your associate, without betraying another’s confidence,

Argue it out with your neighbor, and don’t give away someone’s secret.

Argue your case with your friend, and do not reveal the secret to an outsider,

Treat thy cause with thy friend, and discover not the secret to a stranger:

A gossip reveals secrets, but one who is trustworthy conceals a matter.

A talebearer goes about, revealing secrets, so do not associate with a babbler.

or the one who hears it will shame you, and you will never lose your bad reputation.
