(For he knew they had handed Jesus over out of envy.)


When Pilate saw that he was achieving nothing and that a riot was breaking out, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of the blood of this righteous man. See to it yourselves.”


saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” But they said, “What is that to us? See to it yoʋrself.”


The two of us are justly condemned, for we are receiving the appropriate punishment for the things we have done, but this man has done nothing wrong.”


Now when the centurion saw what had happened, he glorified God and said, “Surely this man was righteous.”


When Pilate heard this, he brought Jesus out and sat down on the judgment seat at a place called the Stone Pavement (or in Hebrew, Gabbatha).


On an appointed day Herod dressed himself in royal clothing, sat down on the platform, and made a speech to them.


But when Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews rose up with one accord against Paul and brought him before the judgment seat,


So he drove them away from the judgment seat.


Then all the Greeks took Sosthenes, the ruler of the synagogue, and began beating him in front of the judgment seat. But none of these things were of any concern to Gallio.


Paul said, “I am standing before the judgment seat of Caesar, where I ought to stand trial. I have done the Jews no wrong, as yoʋ yoʋrself know very well.


So when they had assembled here, I did not postpone the case, but on the next day I sat on the judgment seat and ordered the man to be brought in.


After staying among them for more than ten days, Festus went down to Caesarea. The next day he sat on the judgment seat and ordered Paul to be brought in.


He committed no sin, nor was deceit found in his mouth.


My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the righteous one.
