“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are accursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
When he saw Jesus, he cried out, fell down before him, and said with a loud voice, “What do yoʋ have to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg yoʋ, do not torment me.”
Now there was a herd of many pigs feeding there on the mountain. The demons begged Jesus to permit them to enter the pigs. So he gave them permission.
“or, ‘Who will go down into the abyss?’ ” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).
When they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up out of the abyss will wage war against them, and overpower and kill them.
The beast that yoʋ saw was, and is not, and is about to come up out of the abyss and go to destruction. Those who dwell on the earth, whose names have not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, will be amazed when they see that the beast was and is not and is to come.
But the beast was captured, and so was the false prophet who was with him, who in his sight performed the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and who worshiped his image. The two of them were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur.
They have as king over them the angel of the abyss. His name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek his name is Apollyon.
