Now therefore send quickly and tell David, ‘Do not lodge tonight at the fords of the wilderness, but by all means pass over; lest the king and all the people who are with him be swallowed up.’ ”


Godless men utterly deride me, but I do not turn away from thy law.


Though the cords of the wicked ensnare me, I do not forget thy law.


Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways, as if they were a nation that did righteousness and did not forsake the ordinance of their God; they ask of me righteous judgments, they delight to draw near to God.


And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.


But David replied, “Your father knows well that I have found favor in your eyes; and he thinks, ‘Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved.’ But truly, as the Lord lives and as your soul lives, there is but a step between me and death.”


Behold, as your life was precious this day in my sight, so may my life be precious in the sight of the Lord, and may he deliver me out of all tribulation.”


But David said to Abishai, “Do not destroy him; for who can put forth his hand against the Lord's anointed, and be guiltless?”
