I will meditate on thy precepts, and fix my eyes on thy ways.


But thou art near, O Lord, and all thy commandments are true.


They have almost made an end of me on earth; but I have not forsaken thy precepts.


The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.


But rebels and sinners shall be destroyed together, and those who forsake the Lord shall be consumed.


Ah, sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, offspring of evildoers, sons who deal corruptly! They have forsaken the Lord, they have despised the Holy One of Israel, they are utterly estranged.


And the Lord said: “Because this people draw near with their mouth and honor me with their lips, while their hearts are far from me, and their fear of me is a commandment of men learned by rote;


He sees many things, but does not observe them; his ears are open, but he does not hear.


I will tell of your righteousness and your doings, but they will not help you.


But you, draw near hither, sons of the sorceress, offspring of the adulterer and the harlot.


transgressing, and denying the Lord, and turning away from following our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart lying words.


and said to Jeremiah the prophet, “Let our supplication come before you, and pray to the Lord your God for us, for all this remnant (for we are left but a few of many, as your eyes see us),


that you have gone astray at the cost of your lives. For you sent me to the Lord your God, saying, ‘Pray for us to the Lord our God, and whatever the Lord our God says declare to us and we will do it.’


and then come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, ‘We are delivered!’—only to go on doing all these abominations?


Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, burn incense to Baal, and go after other gods that you have not known,


“Son of man, speak to the elders of Israel, and say to them, Thus says the Lord God, Is it to inquire of me that you come? As I live, says the Lord God, I will not be inquired of by you.


Woe to you who desire the day of the Lord! Why would you have the day of the Lord? It is darkness, and not light;


And they came and said to him, “Teacher, we know that you are true, and care for no man; for you do not regard the position of men, but truly teach the way of God. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?


for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and kept him safe. When he heard him, he was much perplexed; and yet he heard him gladly.


He was a burning and shining lamp, and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light.


They profess to know God, but they deny him by their deeds; they are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good deed.


Draw near to God and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you men of double mind.
