Only, may the Lord grant you discretion and understanding, that when he gives you charge over Israel you may keep the law of the Lord your God.


And he said to man, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.’ ”


The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; a good understanding have all those who practice it. His praise endures for ever!


With my whole heart I seek thee; let me not wander from thy commandments!


I understand more than the aged, for I keep thy precepts.


Through thy precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way.


I am thy servant; give me understanding, that I may know thy testimonies!


The unfolding of thy words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple.


Thy testimonies are righteous for ever; give me understanding that I may live.


Let my cry come before thee, O Lord; give me understanding according to thy word!


Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart,


I entreat thy favor with all my heart; be gracious to me according to thy promise.


Teach me good judgment and knowledge, for I believe in thy commandments.


The godless besmear me with lies, but with my whole heart I keep thy precepts;


Thy hands have made and fashioned me; give me understanding that I may learn thy commandments.


I was dumb and silent, I held my peace to no avail; my distress grew worse,


Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.


“Every one then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house upon the rock;


if any man's will is to do his will, he shall know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own authority.


Keep them and do them; for that will be your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples, who, when they hear all these statutes, will say, ‘Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.’


But he who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer that forgets but a doer that acts, he shall be blessed in his doing.


If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives to all men generously and without reproaching, and it will be given him.


Do not speak evil against one another, brethren. He that speaks evil against a brother or judges his brother, speaks evil against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge.
