Why do you contend against him, saying, ‘He will answer none of my words’?
declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose,’
In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, “I thank thee, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to babes; yea, Father, for such was thy gracious will.
“Father, if thou art willing, remove this cup from me; nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.”
And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” And they cast lots to divide his garments.
So they took away the stone. And Jesus lifted up his eyes and said, “Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.
“Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? No, for this purpose I have come to this hour.
Father, glorify thy name.” Then a voice came from heaven, “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.”
So then he has mercy upon whomever he wills, and he hardens the heart of whomever he wills.
In him, according to the purpose of him who accomplishes all things according to the counsel of his will,
For he has made known to us in all wisdom and insight the mystery of his will, according to his purpose which he set forth in Christ
This was according to the eternal purpose which he has realized in Christ Jesus our Lord,
who saved us and called us with a holy calling, not in virtue of our works but in virtue of his own purpose and the grace which he gave us in Christ Jesus ages ago,
