because he has covered his face with his fat, and gathered fat upon his loins,


They close their hearts to pity; with their mouths they speak arrogantly.


“And I commanded you at that time, saying, ‘The Lord your God has given you this land to possess; all your men of valor shall pass over armed before your brethren the people of Israel.


“But Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked; you waxed fat, you grew thick, you became sleek; then he forsook God who made him, and scoffed at the Rock of his salvation.


And he presented the tribute to Eglon king of Moab. Now Eglon was a very fat man.


And he said to them, “Follow after me; for the Lord has given your enemies the Moabites into your hand.” So they went down after him, and seized the fords of the Jordan against the Moabites, and allowed not a man to pass over.


So Moab was subdued that day under the hand of Israel. And the land had rest for eighty years.
