For then thou wouldest number my steps, thou wouldest not keep watch over my sin;


You say, ‘I am clean, without transgression; I am pure, and there is no iniquity in me.


There is no gloom or deep darkness where evildoers may hide themselves.


If I sin, what do I do to thee, thou watcher of men? Why hast thou made me thy mark? Why have I become a burden to thee?


Why dost thou not pardon my transgression and take away my iniquity? For now I shall lie in the earth; thou wilt seek me, but I shall not be.”


I become afraid of all my suffering, for I know thou wilt not hold me innocent.


If thou, O Lord, shouldst mark iniquities, Lord, who could stand?


O Lord, thou hast searched me and known me!


Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance.
