In the sight of their fathers he wrought marvels in the land of Egypt, in the fields of Zoan.


when he wrought his signs in Egypt, and his miracles in the fields of Zoan.


In that day the Lord will extend his hand yet a second time to recover the remnant which is left of his people, from Assyria, from Egypt, from Pathros, from Ethiopia, from Elam, from Shinar, from Hamath, and from the coastlands of the sea.


The princes of Zoan are utterly foolish; the wise counselors of Pharaoh give stupid counsel. How can you say to Pharaoh, “I am a son of the wise, a son of ancient kings”?


The princes of Zoan have become fools, and the princes of Memphis are deluded; those who are the cornerstones of her tribes have led Egypt astray.


For though his officials are at Zoan and his envoys reach Hanes,


The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the Jews that dwelt in the land of Egypt, at Migdol, at Tahpanhes, at Memphis, and in the land of Pathros,


Then all the men who knew that their wives had offered incense to other gods, and all the women who stood by, a great assembly, all the people who dwelt in Pathros in the land of Egypt, answered Jeremiah:


The Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, said: “Behold, I am bringing punishment upon Amon of Thebes, and Pharaoh, and Egypt and her gods and her kings, upon Pharaoh and those who trust in him.


and I will restore the fortunes of Egypt, and bring them back to the land of Pathros, the land of their origin; and there they shall be a lowly kingdom.


Therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, I will give the land of Egypt to Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall carry off its wealth and despoil it and plunder it; and it shall be the wages for his army.


And I will pour my wrath upon Pelusium, the stronghold of Egypt, and cut off the multitude of Thebes.


And I will set fire to Egypt; Pelusium shall be in great agony; Thebes shall be breached, and its walls broken down.


Thus I will execute acts of judgment upon Egypt. Then they will know that I am the Lord.”


Then they will know that I am the Lord, when I have set fire to Egypt, and all her helpers are broken.


Are you better than Thebes that sat by the Nile, with water around her, her rampart a sea, and water her wall?


They went up into the Negeb, and came to Hebron; and Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the descendants of Anak, were there. (Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)
