O wherefore hidest thou thy face? forgett'st our cause distress'd,
Wherefore hidest thou thy face, And forgettest our affliction and our oppression?
Why do You hide Your face and forget our affliction and our oppression?
Why are you hiding your face, forgetting our suffering and oppression?
Wherefore is it that thou, O Lord, dost stand from us afar? And wherefore hidest thou thyself, when times so troublous are?
He thus hath said within his heart, The Lord hath quite forgot; He hides his countenance, and he for ever sees it not.
How long wilt thou forget me, Lord? shall it for ever be? O how long shall it be that thou wilt hide thy face from me?
Stir up thyself; wake, that thou may'st judgment to me afford, Ev'n to my cause, O thou that art my only God and Lord.
And I will say to God my rock, Why me forgett'st thou so? Why, for my foes' oppression, thus mourning do I go?
Unto the multitude do not thy turtle's soul deliver: The congregation of thy poor do not forget for ever.
Do not forget the voice of those that are thine enemies: Of those the tumult ever grows that do against thee rise.
