Benjamin is a ravenous wolf, in the morning devouring the prey, and at evening dividing the spoil.”


Now you intend to subjugate the people of Judah and Jerusalem, male and female, as your slaves. But what have you except sins against the Lord your God?


A king is not saved by his great army; a warrior is not delivered by his great strength.


Your way was through the sea, your path, through the mighty waters; yet your footprints were unseen.


He gave his people to the sword, and vented his wrath on his heritage.


You will be in the right, O Lord, when I lay charges against you; but let me put my case to you. Why does the way of the guilty prosper? Why do all who are treacherous thrive?


Since the days of Gibeah you have sinned, O Israel; there they have continued. Shall not war overtake them in Gibeah?


When you are encamped against your enemies you shall guard against any impropriety.


The Israelites went out to battle against Benjamin; and the Israelites drew up the battle line against them at Gibeah.


(23) The Israelites went up and wept before the Lord until the evening; and they inquired of the Lord, “Shall we again draw near to battle against our kinsfolk the Benjaminites?” And the Lord said, “Go up against them.”


Benjamin moved out against them from Gibeah the second day, and struck down eighteen thousand of the Israelites, all of them armed men.
