One wastes away like a rotten thing, like a garment that is moth-eaten.


if I say to the Pit, ‘You are my father,’ and to the worm, ‘My mother,’ or ‘My sister,’


My eye has grown dim from grief, and all my members are like a shadow.


My bones cling to my skin and to my flesh, and I have escaped by the skin of my teeth.


and after my skin has been thus destroyed, then in my flesh I shall see God,


The womb forgets them; the worm finds them sweet; they are no longer remembered; so wickedness is broken like a tree.


yet you will plunge me into filth, and my own clothes will abhor me.


From the sole of the foot even to the head, there is no soundness in it, but bruises and sores and bleeding wounds; they have not been drained, or bound up, or softened with oil.


Your pomp is brought down to Sheol, and the sound of your harps; maggots are the bed beneath you, and worms are your covering.


And they shall go out and look at the dead bodies of the people who have rebelled against me; for their worm shall not die, their fire shall not be quenched, and they shall be an abhorrence to all flesh.


There you shall remember your ways and all the deeds by which you have polluted yourselves; and you shall loathe yourselves for all the evils that you have committed.


And immediately, because he had not given the glory to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died.
