God spoke to Israel in visions of the night, and said, “Jacob, Jacob.” And he said, “Here I am.”
Amid thoughts from visions of the night, when deep sleep falls on mortals,
I have spoken once, and I will not answer; twice, but will proceed no further.”
Once God has spoken; twice have I heard this: that power belongs to God,
and steadfast love belongs to you, O Lord. For you repay to all according to their work.
Because I have called and you refused, have stretched out my hand and no one heeded,
Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the Lord,
