The evil do not understand justice, but those who seek the Lord understand it completely.


Therefore the word of the Lord will be to them, “Precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little;” in order that they may go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.


For the Lord has poured out upon you a spirit of deep sleep; he has closed your eyes, you prophets, and covered your heads, you seers.


The Lord said: Because these people draw near with their mouths and honor me with their lips, while their hearts are far from me, and their worship of me is a human commandment learned by rote;


so I will again do amazing things with this people, shocking and amazing. The wisdom of their wise shall perish, and the discernment of the discerning shall be hidden.


He sees many things, but does not observe them; his ears are open, but he does not hear.


Bring forth the people who are blind, yet have eyes, who are deaf, yet have ears!


Hear this, O foolish and senseless people, who have eyes, but do not see, who have ears, but do not hear.


Mortal, you are living in the midst of a rebellious house, who have eyes to see but do not see, who have ears to hear but do not hear;


Then the Lord said, “Name him Lo-ammi, for you are not my people and I am not your God.”


in order that ‘they may indeed look, but not perceive, and may indeed listen, but not understand; so that they may not turn again and be forgiven.’ ”


He said, “To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of God; but to others I speak in parables, so that ‘looking they may not perceive, and listening they may not understand.’


“He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, so that they might not look with their eyes, and understand with their heart and turn— and I would heal them.”


as it is written, “God gave them a sluggish spirit, eyes that would not see and ears that would not hear, down to this very day.”


But to this day the Lord has not given you a mind to understand, or eyes to see, or ears to hear.
