When Esau looked up and saw the women and children, he said, “Who are these with you?” Jacob said, “The children whom God has graciously given your servant.”


For David said, “The Lord, the God of Israel, has given rest to his people; and he resides in Jerusalem forever.


Posterity will serve him; future generations will be told about the Lord,


I have been like a portent to many, but you are my strong refuge.


Sing praises to the Lord, who dwells in Zion. Declare his deeds among the peoples.


For he who avenges blood is mindful of them; he does not forget the cry of the afflicted.


Shout aloud and sing for joy, O royal Zion, for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.


What will one answer the messengers of the nation? “The Lord has founded Zion, and the needy among his people will find refuge in her.”


Then the Lord said, “Just as my servant Isaiah has walked naked and barefoot for three years as a sign and a portent against Egypt and Ethiopia,


Then the moon will be abashed, and the sun ashamed; for the Lord of hosts will reign on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, and before his elders he will manifest his glory.


Yet it was the will of the Lord to crush him with pain. When you make his life an offering for sin, he shall see his offspring, and shall prolong his days; through him the will of the Lord shall prosper.


For before the child knows how to refuse the evil and choose the good, the land before whose two kings you are in dread will be deserted.


Then the Lord said to Isaiah, Go out to meet Ahaz, you and your son Shear-jashub, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool on the highway to the Fuller's Field,


And I went to the prophetess, and she conceived and bore a son. Then the Lord said to me, Name him Maher-shalal-hash-baz;


This shall be the sign to you, says the Lord, that I am going to punish you in this place, in order that you may know that my words against you will surely be carried out:


In their sight you shall lift the baggage on your shoulder, and carry it out in the dark; you shall cover your face, so that you may not see the land; for I have made you a sign for the house of Israel.


I will set my face against them; I will make them a sign and a byword and cut them off from the midst of my people; and you shall know that I am the Lord.


Then take an iron plate and place it as an iron wall between you and the city; set your face toward it, and let it be in a state of siege, and press the siege against it. This is a sign for the house of Israel.


Now listen, Joshua, high priest, you and your colleagues who sit before you! For they are an omen of things to come: I am going to bring my servant the Branch.


Thus says the Lord: I will return to Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem; Jerusalem shall be called the faithful city, and the mountain of the Lord of hosts shall be called the holy mountain.


and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds told them.


Then Simeon blessed them and said to his mother Mary, “This child is destined for the falling and the rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be opposed


They shall be among you and your descendants as a sign and a portent forever.
