For when Solomon was old, his wives turned away his heart after other gods; and his heart was not true to the Lord his God, as was the heart of his father David.


He walked in all the way of his father Asa; he did not turn aside from it, doing what was right in the sight of the Lord; yet the high places were not taken away, and the people still sacrificed and offered incense on the high places.


Nevertheless the high places were not taken away; the people continued to sacrifice and make offerings on the high places.

King Asa even removed his mother Maacah from being queen mother because she had made an abominable image for Asherah. Asa cut down her image, crushed it, and burned it at the Wadi Kidron.


He brought into the house of God the votive gifts of his father and his own votive gifts—silver, gold, and utensils.


His heart was courageous in the ways of the Lord; and furthermore he removed the high places and the sacred poles from Judah.


He walked in the way of his father Asa and did not turn aside from it, doing what was right in the sight of the Lord.


Yet the high places were not removed; the people had not yet set their hearts upon the God of their ancestors.


He sacrificed and made offerings on the high places, on the hills, and under every green tree.


The people, however, still sacrificed at the high places, but only to the Lord their God.
