And the Lord said to Satan, ‘Where have you come from?’ Satan answered the Lord, ‘From roaming throughout the earth, going to and fro on it.’


You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water.


I will make rivers flow on barren heights, and springs within the valleys. I will turn the desert into pools of water, and the parched ground into springs.


Then it says, “I will return to the house I left.” When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order.


‘What do you want with us, Son of God?’ they shouted. ‘Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?’


Simon himself believed and was baptised. And he followed Philip everywhere, astonished by the great signs and miracles he saw.


Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
