Esther said, ‘An adversary and enemy! This vile Haman!’ Then Haman was terrified before the king and queen.


And the Lord said to Satan, ‘Where have you come from?’ Satan answered the Lord, ‘From roaming throughout the earth, going to and fro on it.’


The lions roar for their prey and seek their food from God.


Appoint someone evil to oppose my enemy; let an accuser stand at his right hand.


A king’s rage is like the roar of a lion, but his favour is like dew on the grass.


A king’s wrath strikes terror like the roar of a lion; those who anger him forfeit their lives.


Like a roaring lion or a charging bear is a wicked ruler over a helpless people.


He who vindicates me is near. Who then will bring charges against me? Let us face each other! Who is my accuser? Let him confront me!

Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.’

But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was delivered from the lion’s mouth.


Rather, he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined.


It teaches us to say ‘No’ to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,


Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.


Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children,


Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled.


Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.


Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.


The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray.


Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: ‘Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Messiah. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down.
