My people come to you, as they usually do, and sit before you to hear your words, but they do not put them into practice. Their mouths speak of love, but their hearts are greedy for unjust gain.
If I had not done among them the works no-one else did, they would not be guilty of sin. As it is, they have seen, and yet they have hated both me and my Father.
but I know you. I know that you do not have the love of God in your hearts.
They disagreed among themselves and began to leave after Paul had made this final statement: ‘The Holy Spirit spoke the truth to your ancestors when he said through Isaiah the prophet:
having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.
They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good.
