Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight; so you are right in your verdict and justified when you judge.


If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that?


But if we say, “Of human origin,” all the people will stone us, because they are persuaded that John was a prophet.’


Even tax collectors came to be baptised. ‘Teacher,’ they asked, ‘what should we do?’


I tell you, among those born of women there is no-one greater than John; yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.’


But wisdom is proved right by all her children.’


He had been instructed in the way of the Lord, and he spoke with great fervour and taught about Jesus accurately, though he knew only the baptism of John.


So Paul asked, ‘Then what baptism did you receive?’ ‘John’s baptism,’ they replied.


Since they did not know the righteousness of God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness.
