Israel said to Joseph, ‘Now I am ready to die, since I have seen for myself that you are still alive.’


Consider the blameless, observe the upright; a future awaits those who seek peace.


It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Messiah.


Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying:


I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far;


Then I heard a voice from heaven say, ‘Write this: blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.’ ‘Yes,’ says the Spirit, ‘they will rest from their labour, for their deeds will follow them.’


They called out in a loud voice, ‘How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?’
