In the ninth year of Hoshe´a the king of Assyria took Samaria, and carried Israel away into Assyria, and placed them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.


Every day they wrest my words: all their thoughts are against me for evil.


Why hast thou prophesied in the name of the Lord, saying, This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate without an inhabitant? And all the people were gathered against Jeremiah in the house of the Lord.


Now it came to pass, when they had heard all the words, they were afraid both one and other, and said unto Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words.


The words of Amos, who was among the herdmen of Teko´a, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzzi´ah king of Judah, and in the days of Jerobo´am the son of Jo´ash king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.


Then Amazi´ah the priest of Beth–el sent to Jerobo´am king of Israel, saying, Amos hath conspired against thee in the midst of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words.


Also Amazi´ah said unto Amos, O thou seer, go, flee thee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there:


and the high places of Isaac shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jerobo´am with the sword.


Make thee bald, and poll thee for thy delicate children; enlarge thy baldness as the eagle; for they are gone into captivity from thee.


and said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.


for we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us.
