It happened, while Yisra'el lived in that land, that Re'uven went and lay with Bilhah, his father's concubine, and Yisra'el heard of it. Now the sons of Ya`akov were twelve.
The sons of Le'ah: Re'uven (Ya`akov's firstborn), Shim`on, Levi, Yehudah, Yissakhar, and Zevulun.
Gil`ad is mine, and Menasheh is mine. Efrayim also is the defense of my head. Yehudah is my scepter.
Kalev stilled the people before Moshe, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.

But Yehoshua the son of Nun, and Kalev the son of Yefunneh, remained alive of those men who went to spy out the land.
Yehoshua the son of Nun and Kalev the son of Yefunneh, who were of those who spied out the land, tore their clothes:
For the LORD had said of them, They shall surely die in the wilderness. There was not left a man of them, save Kalev the son of Yefunneh, and Yehoshua the son of Nun.
You shall take one prince of every tribe, to divide the land for inheritance.
save Kalev the son of Yefunneh: he shall see it; and to him will I give the land that he has trodden on, and to his children, because he has wholly followed the LORD.
This is [the blessing] of Yehudah: and he said, Hear, LORD, the voice of Yehudah. Bring him in to his people. With his hands he contended for himself. You shall be a help against his adversaries.
