And they came up and said to Him, Teacher, we know that You are sincere and what You profess to be, that You cannot lie, and that You have no personal bias for anyone; for You are not influenced by partiality and have no regard for anyone's external condition or position, but in [and on the basis of] truth You teach the way of God. Mikhayahu said, As the LORD lives, what my God says, that will I speak.

Now therefore let the fear of the LORD be on you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the LORD our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of bribes.

It yields much increase to the kings whom you have set over us because of our sins: also they have power over our bodies, and over our livestock, at their pleasure, and we are in great distress.

Deliver my soul, LORD, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue.

His mouth was smooth as butter, but his heart was war. His words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords.

For you have dealt deceitfully against your own souls; for you sent me to the LORD your God, saying, Pray for us to the LORD our God; and according to all that the LORD our God shall say, so declare to us, and we will do it:

But as for me, I am full of power by the Spirit of the LORD, and of judgment, and of might, to declare to Ya`akov his disobedience, and to Yisra'el his sin.

They sent their talmidim to him, along with the Herodians, saying, *Rabbi, we know that you are honest, and teach the way of God in truth, no matter who you teach, for you aren't partial to anyone.

Tell us therefore, what do you think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?*

They sent some of the Perushim and of the Herodians to him, that they might trap him with words.

Shall we give, or shall we not give?* But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said to them, *Why do you test me? Bring me a denarius, that I may see it.*

When he had come, immediately he came to him, and said, *Rabbi! Rabbi!* and kissed him.

Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?*

They began to accuse him, saying, *We found this man perverting the nation, forbidding paying taxes to Caesar, and saying that he himself is Messiah, a king.*

He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory, but he who seeks the glory of him who sent him is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.

For this reason you also pay taxes, for they are servants of God's service, attending continually on this very thing.

For we are not as so many, peddling the word of God. But as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God, we speak in Messiah.

For if I make you sorry, then who will make me glad but he who is made sorry by me?

Therefore seeing we have this ministry, even as we obtained mercy, we don't faint.

Knowing therefore the fear of the Lord, we persuade men, but we are revealed to God; and I hope that we are revealed also in your consciences.

Therefore we know no one after the flesh from now on. Even though we have known Messiah after the flesh, yet now we know him so no more.

For am I now seeking the favor of men, or of God? Or am I striving to please men? For if I were still pleasing men, I wouldn't be a servant of Messiah.

But from those who were reputed to be important (whatever they were, it makes no difference to me; God doesn't show partiality to man)--they, I say, who were respected imparted nothing to me,

You shall not wrest justice: you shall not respect persons; neither shall you take a bribe; for a bribe does blind the eyes of the wise, and pervert the words of the righteous.

But even as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the Good News, so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, who tests our hearts.
