There was a famine in the land. Avram went down into Egypt to live as a foreigner there, for the famine was severe in the land.


He said to Avram, *Know for sure that your seed will live as foreigners in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them. They will afflict them four hundred years.


The famine was severe in the land.


You shall dwell in the land of Goshen, and you will be near to me, you, your children, your children's children, your flocks, your herds, and all that you have.


that you shall say, 'Your servants have been keepers of livestock from our youth even until now, both we, and our fathers:' that you may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an abomination to the Egyptians.*


Par`oh spoke to Yosef, saying, *Your father and your brothers have come to you.


Yisra'el also came into Egypt. Ya`akov sojourned in the land of Cham.


For thus says the Lord GOD, My people went down at the first into Egypt to sojourn there: and the Ashur has oppressed them without cause.
