There was a strife between the herdsmen of Avram's livestock and the herdsmen of Lot's livestock: and the Kena`ani and the Perizzi lived in the land at that time.


Avram said to Lot, *Please, let there be no strife between me and you, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen; for we are relatives.


The herdsmen of Gerar argued with Yitzchak's herdsmen, saying, *The water is ours.* He called the name of the well `Esek, because they contended with him.


That day, he removed the male goats that were streaked and spotted, and all the female goats that were speckled and spotted, every one that had white in it, and all the black ones among the sheep, and gave them into the hand of his sons.


Now Ya`akov heard that he had defiled Dinah, his daughter; and his sons were with his livestock in the field. Ya`akov held his shalom until they came.


His brothers went to feed their father's flock in Shekhem.


This is the history of the generations of Ya`akov. Yosef, being seventeen years old, was feeding the flock with his brothers. He was a boy with the sons of Bilhah and Zilpah, his father's wives. Yosef brought an evil report of them to their father.


They served him by himself, and them by themselves, and the Egyptians, that ate with him, by themselves, because the Egyptians don't eat bread with the Hebrews, for that is an abomination to the Egyptians.


You shall dwell in the land of Goshen, and you will be near to me, you, your children, your children's children, your flocks, your herds, and all that you have.


Take your father and your households, and come to me, and I will give you the good of the land of Egypt, and you will eat the fat of the land.'


These men are shepherds, for they have been keepers of livestock, and they have brought their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have.'


Yosef placed his father and his brothers, and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Ra`meses, as Par`oh had commanded.


Par`oh said to his brothers, *What is your occupation?* They said to Par`oh, *Your servants are shepherds, both we, and our fathers.*


They said to Par`oh, *We have come to live as foreigners in the land, for there is no pasture for your servants' flocks. For the famine is severe in the land of Kena`an. Now therefore, please let your servants dwell in the land of Goshen.*


The land of Egypt is before you. Make your father and your brothers dwell in the best of the land. Let them dwell in the land of Goshen. If you know any able men among them, then put them in charge of my livestock.*


I will set apart in that day the land of Goshen, in which my people dwell, that no swarms of flies shall be there; to the end you may know that I am the LORD in the midst of the earth.


Moshe said, *It isn't appropriate to do so; for we shall sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians to the LORD our God. Behold, shall we sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes, and won't they stone us?
