Avraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread and a bottle of water, and gave it to Hagar, putting it on her shoulder; and gave her the child, and sent her away. She departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Be'er-Sheva.


But I counsel that all Yisra'el be gathered together to you, from Dan even to Be'er-Sheva, as the sand that is by the sea for multitude; and that you go to battle in your own person.


Yo'av the son of Tzeru'yah, and the servants of David, went out, and met them by the pool of Giv`on; and they sat down, the one on the one side of the pool, and the other on the other side of the pool.


Now Yo'av was over all the army of Yisra'el; and Benayah the son of Yehoiada was over the Kereti and over the Peleti;


Tzelek the `Ammonite, Naharai the Be'erotite, armor bearers to Yo'av the son of Tzeru'yah,


So the LORD sent a pestilence on Yisra'el from the morning even to the time appointed; and there died of the people from Dan even to Be'er-Sheva seventy thousand men.

Yo'av the son of Tzeru'yah was over the army; and Yehoshafat the son of Achilud was recorder;


David said to Yo'av and to the princes of the people, Go, number Yisra'el from Be'er-Sheva even to Dan; and bring me word, that I may know the sum of them.


However in [the business of] the ambassadors of the princes of Bavel, who sent to him to inquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.
