The three sons of Tzeru'yah were there, Yo'av, and Avishai, and `Asa'el: and `Asa'el was as light of foot as a wild gazelle.


Now Yo'av was over all the army of Yisra'el; and Benayah the son of Yehoiada was over the Kereti and over the Peleti;


When they were at the great stone which is in Giv`on, `Amasa came to meet them. Yo'av was girded with his apparel of war that he had put on, and thereon was a sash with a sword fastened on his waist in its sheath; and as he went forth it fell out.


`Asa'el the brother of Yo'av was one of the thirty; Elchanan the son of Dodo of Beit-Lechem,


Yo'av the son of Tzeru'yah was over the army; and Yehoshafat the son of Achilud was recorder;


He conferred with Yo'av the son of Tzeru'yah, and with Avyatar the Kohen: and they following Adoniyahu helped him.


Moreover you know also what Yo'av the son of Tzeru'yah did to me, even what he did to the two captains of the armies of Yisra'el, to Aviner the son of Ner, and to `Amasa the son of Yeter, whom he killed, and shed the blood of war in shalom, and put the blood of war on his sash that was about his waist, and in his shoes that were on his feet.


David said, Whoever strikes the Yevusi first shall be chief and captain. Yo'av the son of Tzeru'yah went up first, and was made chief.


and their sisters were Tzeru'yah and Avigayil. The sons of Tzeru'yah: Avishai, and Yo'av, and `Asa'el, three.


The fourth [captain] for the fourth month was `Asa'el the brother of Yo'av, and Zevadyah his son after him: and in his division were twenty-four thousand.


then they took all the men, and went to fight with Yishma'el the son of Netanyah, and found him by the great waters that are in Giv`on.


Then answered David and said to Achimelekh the Chittite, and to Avishai the son of Tzeru'yah, brother to Yo'av, saying, Who will go down with me to Sha'ul to the camp? Avishai said, I will go down with you.
