He measured the four walls that went all the way around \{the temple\}. The wall was 500 cubits long and 500 cubits wide. It separated the holy area from the area that is not holy.

The angel who talked with me had a measuring rod made of gold. The angel had this rod to measure the city, its gates, and its wall.
The angel also measured the wall. It was 144 cubits {\cf2\super [165]} high. (The angel was using the same measurement that people use.)
