He was hurt and punished. But he never protested. He said nothing—like a sheep being taken to be killed. He was like a lamb that makes no sound when someone cuts off its wool. He never opened his mouth \{to defend himself\}.


So Pilate said to Jesus, “You hear these people accusing you of all these things. Why don’t you answer?”


But Jesus said nothing to answer Pilate. Pilate was very surprised at this.


Herod asked Jesus many questions, but Jesus said nothing.


The part of Scripture {\cf2\super [177]} that he was reading was this:


People said bad things to Christ, but he did not say bad things to them. Christ suffered, but he did not threaten (speak against) the people. No! Christ let God take care of him. God is the One who judges rightly.
