After those things, God decided to test Abraham’s faith. God said to him, “Abraham!”
But then the Angel of the Lord stopped Abraham. The angel called from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!”
Isaac grew old, and his eyes became so weak he could not see clearly. One day he called his older son Esau to him. Isaac said, “Son!”
Jacob safely ended his trip from Paddan Aram when he came to the town of Shechem in Canaan. Jacob made his camp in a field near the city.
One day, Joseph’s brothers went to Shechem to care for their father’s sheep.
“Listen! I am sending you, and you will be like sheep among wolves. So be smart like snakes. But also be like doves and do nothing wrong.
The owner of the vineyard said, ‘What will I do now? I will send my son. I love my son very much. Maybe the farmers will respect my son!’
The Lord called Samuel the third time. Again Samuel got up and went to Eli. Samuel said, “Here I am. You called me.”
