Genesis 33:18 - Easy To Read Version

18 Jacob safely ended his trip from Paddan Aram when he came to the town of Shechem in Canaan. Jacob made his camp in a field near the city.

Abram traveled through the land of Canaan as far as the town of Shechem and then went to the big tree at Moreh. The Canaanite people lived in that place at this time.


When Isaac was 40 years old he married Rebekah. Rebekah was from Paddan Aram. She was Bethuel’s daughter and the sister of Laban the Aramean.


So leave this place and go to Paddan Aram. Go to the house of Bethuel, your mother’s father. Laban, your mother’s brother, lives there. Marry one of his daughters.


The next morning Laban caught Jacob. Jacob had set his camp on the mountain. So Laban and all his men set their camp in the hill country of Gilead.


When Jacob came back from Paddan Aram, God appeared to him again. And God blessed Jacob.


Jacob said to Joseph, “Go to Shechem. Your brothers are there with my sheep.”


Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun were Jacob’s sons from his wife Leah. Leah had those sons in Paddan Aram. She also had a daughter named, Dinah. There were 33 people in this family.


On the trip from Paddan Aram, Rachel died. This made me very sad. She died in the land of Canaan. We were still traveling toward Ephrath. I buried her there on the road to Ephrath. (Ephrath is Bethlehem.)”


God spoke in his temple: {\cf2\super [357]} \par It makes me very happy!\par \{God said,\}\par \{I will share this land with my people.\}\par I will give them Shechem.\par I will give them Succoth Valley.\par


John was also baptizing people in Aenon. Aenon is near Salim. John was baptizing there because there was plenty of water. People were going there to be baptized.


In Samaria Jesus came to the town called Sychar. This town is near the field that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.


Later their bodies were moved to Shechem. They were put in a grave there. (It was the same grave that Abraham had bought in Shechem from the sons of Hamor. He paid them with silver.)


Joshua called all the family groups of Israel to meet together at Shechem. Then Joshua called the older leaders, the heads of the families, the judges, and the officers and the rulers and the judges of Israel. These men stood before God.


Abimelech was the son of Jerub Baal (Gideon). Abimelech went to his uncles that lived in the city of Shechem. He said to his uncles and all of his mother’s family,
