The snake was the most clever of all the wild animals that the Lord God had made. {The snake wanted to trick the woman.} The snake spoke to the woman and said, “Woman, did God really tell you that you must not eat from any tree in the garden?”


{You killed your brother,} and the ground opened up to take his blood from your hands. So now, I will cause bad things to happen to that ground.


“God made people as a copy of himself. So any person who kills a person must be killed by a person.


May all the people living in the desert\par bow down to him.\par May all his enemies bow before him\par with their faces in the dirt.\par


You were \{defeated and\} pulled to the ground. Now, I hear your voice rising from the ground like the voice of a ghost. Your words come like a quiet voice from the dirt.”


Wolves and little lambs will eat together.\par Lions will eat with cattle.\par A snake on the ground will not scare or hurt\par any person on my holy mountain.”\par The Lord said all those things.\par


So you must treat clean [366] animals differently from unclean [367] animals. You must treat clean birds differently from unclean birds. Don’t eat any of those unclean birds, and animals, and things that crawl on the ground. I have made those things unclean.


They will crawl in the dust like a snake.\par They will shake with fear.\par They will be like insects crawling\par from their holes in the ground\par and coming to the Lord our God.\par God, they will fear and respect you!\par
