The earth grew grass and plants that made grain. And it grew trees that made fruit with seeds in it. Every plant made its own kind of seeds. And God saw this was good.


God said, “I am giving you all the grain bearing plants and all the fruit trees. Those trees make fruit with seeds in it. This grain and fruit will be your food.


The Lord God gave the man this command. The Lord God said, “You may eat from any tree in the garden.


This was before there were plants on the earth. Nothing was growing in the fields. This was because the Lord had not yet made it rain on the earth. And there was no person to care for the plants.


The Lord God made every beautiful tree and every tree that was good for food to grow in the garden. In the middle of the garden, the Lord God put the tree of life and also the tree that gives knowledge about good and evil.


Food grows on the ground above.\par But underground, \{it is different\}—\par as if everything were melted by fire.\par


So that person becomes strong\par like a tree planted by streams of water\par He is like a tree that makes fruit\par at the right time.\par He is like a tree with leaves that don’t die.\par Everything he does is successful.\par


God fills the sky with clouds.\par God makes rain for the earth.\par God makes the grass grow on the mountains.\par


The earth causes plants to grow.\par People plant seeds in the garden,\par and the garden makes them grow.\par In the same way, the Lord\par will make goodness grow.\par The Lord will make praise grow\par in all the nations.”\par


That person will be strong\par like a tree planted near water.\par That tree has large roots that find the water.\par That tree is not afraid\par when the days are hot.\par Its leaves are always green.\par It does not worry in a year\par when no rain comes.\par That tree always produces fruit.\par


The ax is now ready to cut down the trees. {\cf2\super [40]} Every tree that does not make good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.


God clothes the grass in the field like that. That grass is living today, but tomorrow it is thrown into the fire to be burned. So you know that God will clothe you much more. Don’t have so little faith!


Without any help, the ground grows grain. First the plant grows, then the head, and then all the grain in the head.


But God gives it a body that he has planned for it. And God gives each kind of seed its own body.


\{Those people are like\} land that gets plenty of rain. A farmer plants and cares for that land so that it will give food for people. If that land grows plants that help people, then that land has the blessing of God.


My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree make olives? No! Can a grapevine make figs? No! And a well full of salty water cannot give good water.
