Abijah became the new king of Judah. This was during the 18th year that Jeroboam son of Nebat ruled Israel.


As those men began to sing and to praise God, the Lord set an ambush {\cf2\super [232]} for the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir. Those were the people that came to attack Judah. Those people were beaten.


There is no person who is wise enough to make a plan that can succeed if the Lord is against it.


\{God said,\} “My people are foolish.\par They don’t know me.\par They are stupid children.\par They don’t understand.\par They are skillful at doing evil,\par but they don’t know how to do good.”\par


Joshua gave them this command: “Listen carefully to what I tell you. You must hide in the area behind the city. Wait for the time to attack. Don’t go far from the city. Continue to watch and be ready.


Then Joshua sent those men to their hiding place and waited. They went to a place between Bethel and Ai. This was to the west of Ai. And Joshua stayed the night with his people.
