And thou didst multiply their children as the stars of heaven: and broughtest them to the land concerning which thou hadst said to their fathers, that they should go in and possess it.


They mount up to the heavens, and they go down to the depths: their soul pined away with evils.


Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad, let the sea be moved, and the fulness thereof:


If it shall do evil in my sight, that it obey not my voice, I will repent of the good that I have spoken to do unto it.


So I lifted up my hand over them in the desert, not to bring them into the land which I had given them flowing with milk and honey, the best of all lands.


Among whom there was not one of them that were numbered before by Moses and Aaron in the desert of Sinai.


For the Lord had foretold that they should die in the wilderness. And none remained of them, but Caleb the son of Jephone, and Josue the son of Nun.


If these men, that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I promised with an oath to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, because they would not follow me:


Behold, said he, I have delivered it to you: go in and possess it, concerning which the Lord swore to your fathers Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, that he would give it to them, and to their seed after them.


For we, who have believed, shall enter into rest; as he said: As I have sworn in my wrath; If they shall enter into my rest; and this indeed when the works from the foundation of the world were finished.
