But if he did not intend any harm,  and yet God allowed it to happen, I will appoint a place for you where he may flee.


‘Tell the Israelites: When someone sins unintentionally  against any of the Lord’s commands and does anything prohibited by them –


‘When a leader  , sins and unintentionally violates any of the commands of the Lord his God by doing what is prohibited, and incurs guilt,


These six cities will serve as a refuge for the Israelites and for the foreigner or temporary resident among them, so that anyone who kills a person unintentionally may flee there.


‘The cities you give the Levites will include six cities of refuge,  which you will provide so that the one who kills someone may flee there; in addition to these, give forty-two other cities.


Someone could flee there who committed manslaughter, killing his neighbour accidentally without previously hating him. He could flee to one of these cities and stay alive:
