But she said, ‘As the Lord your God lives,  I don’t have anything baked #– #only a handful of flour in the jar and a bit of oil  in the jug. Just now, I am gathering a couple of sticks in order to go and prepare it for myself and my son so we can eat it and die.’


and say, “This is what the king says: Put this man in prison  and feed him only a little bread and water  until I come back safely.” ’


I sigh when food  is put before me, and my groans pour out like water.


so that he detests bread, and his soul despises his favourite food.


Is bland food eaten without salt? Is there flavour in an egg white?


If only my request would be granted and God would provide what I hope for:


But I said, ‘Oh, Lord God, I have never been defiled. From my youth until now I have not eaten anything that died naturally or was mauled by wild beasts.  And impure meat has never entered my mouth.’


He said to me, ‘Son of man, I am going to cut off the supply of bread in Jerusalem.  They will anxiously eat food they have weighed out and in dread drink rationed water


I didn’t eat any rich food,  no meat or wine entered my mouth, and I didn’t put any oil on my body until the three weeks were over.
