‘I am pure, without transgression; I am clean and have no iniquity.


The one who conceals his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them will find mercy.


‘Why have we fasted, but you have not seen? We have denied ourselves, but you haven’t noticed! ’ ‘Look, you do as you please on the day of your fast, and oppress all your workers.


‘When you tell these people all these things, they will say to you, “Why has the Lord declared all this terrible disaster against us?  What is our iniquity? What is our sin that we have committed against the Lord our God? ”


How can you protest, ‘I am not defiled; I have not followed the Baals’? Look at your behaviour in the valley; acknowledge what you have done. You are a swift young camel twisting and turning on her way,


Why do you bring a case against me? All of you have rebelled against me. This is the  Lord’s declaration.


Therefore, I will bring a case against you again. This is the  Lord’s declaration. I will bring a case against your children’s children.


The tumult reaches to the ends of the earth because the Lord brings a case against   the nations. He enters into judgement with all humanity. As for the wicked, he hands them over to the sword – this is the  Lord’s declaration.


I will spread my net over him,  and he will be caught in my snare.  I will bring him to Babylon and execute judgement on him there for the treachery he committed against me.


Once I was alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life again
