Isaac was forty years old when he took as his wife Rebekah  daughter of Bethuel the Aramean from Paddan-aram  and sister of Laban the Aramean.


So now, my son, listen to me. Flee at once to my brother Laban in Haran,


Esau noticed that Isaac blessed Jacob and sent him to Paddan-aram to get a wife there. When he blessed him, Isaac commanded Jacob, ‘Do not marry a Canaanite girl.’


Esau realised that his father Isaac disapproved of the Canaanite women,


Honour your father and your mother  so that you may have a long life in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.


Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction, and don’t reject your mother’s teaching,


As for the eye that ridicules a father and despises obedience to a mother, may ravens of the valley pluck it out and young vultures eat it.


‘Each of you is to respect his mother and father.  You are to keep my Sabbaths; I am the Lord your God.


Children, obey  your parents in the Lord, because this is right.


so that it may go well with you and that you may have a long life in the land.   ,,


Children,  obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.
