He named the place Massah and Meribah , because the Israelites complained, and because they tested the Lord, saying, ‘Is the Lord among us or not? ’
So they named that place Kibroth-hattaavah, because there they buried the people who had craved the meat.
Then Moses told Aaron, ‘Take your firepan, place fire from the altar in it, and add incense. Go quickly to the community and make atonement for them, because wrath has come from the Lord; the plague has begun.’
He said about Levi: Your Thummim and Urim belong to your faithful one; you tested him at Massah and contended with him at the Waters of Meribah.
